Business Booming for “Indulgence” Services

As reported on National Public Radio (NPR) last month, despite the tough economy, business is booming for massage therapists and yoga practitioners. People are cutting out their vacations, and instead “treating themselves” to an extra massage or yoga class during their “stay-cations.”

At the Ruscombe Mansion Community Health Center, the region’s largest and oldest holistic facility, we do not consider these treatments “indulgences,” but rather, necessary preventive measures. NPR also reported that Americans are delaying expensive “preventives” like colonoscopies, in order to save the deductibles not covered by the insurance. Although many of Ruscombe’s services are paid for out-of-pocket, an increasing number of people agree that nurturing yourself is one of the most cost-effective insurance payments. Ruscombe makes it easy in our warm and comforting atmosphere.

Lucy Hagan, massage, Reiki, craniosacral, and aromatherapy practitioner at Ruscombe says, “My business has nearly doubled since September ‘08! Many people are experiencing more stress during this economic downturn, and their desire for well-being has intensified. Stress can show up in countless ways—as pain in the shoulders, back, chest, abdomen, inability to sleep, anxiety, anger, and fear. Approaches like those we take at Ruscombe are often extremely helpful in returning people to well-being and helping them maintain it.”
