What is Reiki?

Reiki Practitioners at Ruscombe

Reiki is a method of guiding universal, springing, motivating life forces ('ki') to help ignite or enhance one's innate ability to heal.

The uses of Reiki are as extensive as Reiki is powerful. An essential effect of universal forces is attuning, even noodging, systems toward overall health. So it is with Reiki. Reiki adapts. Whatever condition is present, be it allergy, uncertainty, grief, depression, vision problems; fractures, indigestion, hypertension, arthritis issues, endocrine troubles, fibromyalgia, 'a bug,' Reiki has been shown to help. Reiki combines with medication and nutrition regimens; supports obstetric cycles; and blends with therapies ranging from surgery to acupuncture, plant and mineral medicinals, and chemo/radiation.

The most well known form of Reiki is 'hands on' work, during which the specific Reiki 'invitation for healing' is offered through directed touch. One rests comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner quietly places hands on, or near, the head, neck, torso, arms, legs, hands, feet. During or after a Reiki session, one may welcome gentle, sometimes profound signs of change. People describe all new pain relief, increased robustness, effectiveness, insight, mobility, relaxation. Some simply say they enjoy feeling better. Studies confirm that healing with Reiki is deep and thorough. And while it is true that one single session sometimes 'does the job,' most people appreciate the cumulative effect of work with Reiki over time.

The essence of Reiki is this: Reiki meets matters exactly as they are. It cannot do otherwise. Whether sublime or nagging, any challenge -and any effort- is recognized fully by Reiki. As Love does, Reiki sees mind, body, heart and situation as already whole. And like Love, Reiki offers the power of that vision to all.
