Welcome Back to Co-op Cafe

Shanthi & Sumathy Return Tuesday (October 5) for Carry-Out and Outdoor Dining on our New Patio

We couldn’t be happier to announce the return of our popular Co-op Cafe after so many months of closure due to the pandemic. Beginning Tuesday, October 5th, Shanthi and Sumathy will be serving their home-made Indian cuisine every Tuesday from 11:30 – 1:30.

For pandemic-safety reasons we will for the time being limit serving to carry-out and/or outdoor dining on our new patio, just outside the kitchen on the east side of Ruscombe Mansion (overlooking the community ball field). We can also arrange seating under our 20′ x 20 ‘ marquee canopy as needed. Cafe patrons are asked to call at the patio/kitchen door to order or pick-up food.

We also anticipate the return of Steph, Connie & Sue in the spring of 2022. Steph is working out her schedule and will likely be cooking on Fridays next year. Check back regularly for updates.

Yoga at Ruscombe

We’re thrilled to announce two new series of yoga classes at Ruscombe starting July 17. Elisabeth Gambino, YA eRYT-500, will lead Hatha Yoga on Sunday mornings, 9:30 – 10:45 am, starting July 17th. On Thursday evenings, Elisabeth will lead Gentle Yoga sessions from 6:00 – 7:15 pm.

Hatha yoga (Sundays) is the physical practice of yoga. In this new 75 minute all-levels class, learn to build a yoga practice and adapt it to your body, to build strength, flexibility, mindfulness,  and increased physical wellbeing.  Each session will focus on a specific physical opening, freeing your body from movement patterns and opening your anatomy for a deeper yogic experience.  These structured classes will help you to build a therapeutic home practice, tailoring your practice to your needs!   Student suggestions are welcome at each session, and each six week cycle will work through most major areas of tension before returning to earlier class themes.  Recommended for all levels; I will teach students to adapt poses as needed for each individual body.

Gentle Yoga (Thursdays) is a restorative practice which complements active vinyasa practices and soothes the body after the day’s work. It is primarily floor-based and simulates the energetic meridians of the body, with gentle breath-based movement before longer holds. It opens the connective tissues and joints for increased flexibility, vitality and endurance.

Classes are $20 drop-in or $90 per six-session subscription.

For more information and registration, email Elisabeth.Gambino@gmail.com or visit www.ThePracticeWell.com.

2021 Funding Drive

2021 Funding Drive

We're asking for your support after a challenging year.

Today, as we move through Spring, phones are beginning to ring again as area practitioners who had closed their offices early in the pandemic begin to consider reopening. A large segment of the population, after confining themselves to home for long periods of time, are cautiously beginning to emerge from isolation, and many are experiencing physical, mental and emotional stress. The need for professional bodywork therapies, counseling and healing services in general is expected to surge over the coming months. We will be ready.

We feel fortunate to have survived the past 14 months with our business intact, and to have done so without becoming mired in debt. Even so, our programs and revenues, have been heavily impacted by the pandemic, and our cash reserves are sorely depleted.

The past year has presented historical challenges: from life and death issues of health and safety during a pandemic to helping many of our practitioners avoid catastrophe in their own businesses via substantial rent relief. Now, as pandemic restrictions begin to lift and the economy begins on the long to recovery, we are taking a good look at where things currently stand, in terms of both Ruscombe business and our community, and we’re forging plans for the short and long term future.

On the Approach of Winter

Snapshots and excited Facebook posts from far-flung friends remind me that in many parts of the country early winter has made her presence known. There will be plenty of time for complaining about interminable grey days and icy weather later in the season…Right now it’s all about when will we wake up to lovely soft white landscapes and that special blessing the silence of a snow fall brings.

Some believe that silence is one of the most essential gifts of the winter season — a time to walk in the quiet of a snowfall or sit with a hot cup of tea and reflect on the important things, or perhaps very little things that we almost missed in the rush of warmer weather activity.

Catching our Breath at the Edge – The Awesome Drop of Autumn

By Cynthia Zanti Jabs, L.Ac.

Autumn in the Rockies

Autumn is Lung Season in Asian Healing Arts. Doesn’t it feel like we all REALLY need to catch our breath right about now??

Three online classes this September will offer practices to expand, enhance and fine tune our lung function. To help us recover from insults and injury. And make the most of healing gifts that only Autumn offers.

This round of Healing-with-the-Seasons Qi Gong (aka Medicinal Movement and Meditation Practices) will be presented as live online workshops. So you can safely attend from anywhere: Home, office, a campsite at the beach . . . .

Just three classes. Monday evenings or Wednesday mornings. Starting Sept 14, right before the Autumn Equinox. More info at: Healing-with-the-Seasons.teachable.com.

Postcards from the Cafe…July 2020: Peaches!

Each Peach
And Stone,
A Universe
Unto Her Own.

The amazing anonymous ginger poet,
with a freshly baked a poem today

Peaches! We got to go peach picking for the first time last season, and the orchard in my meditations all year has smelled exactly like that day. This season we’ve been out to pick sweet cherries, blueberries, and black raspberries – each berry a magical thing. But peeeeaches!! They are fuzzy. You can pet them while they ripen. And they smell soooo good:) So a big juicy burst of gratitude this week to all the orchards that are keeping on growing, and best wishes to you for a good week ahead.

Stay well & keep on going,

Steph & Connie & Sue, too

Now we’re pleased to announce they have expanded their screenings to include, along with breast imaging and evaluation, the head, neck, trunk and abdominal regions.

Finding our Way Through the Pandemic-Era Landscape

The recent pandemic and related life-style changes and lock-down orders have generated a wide range of responses. On the plus side, many of us have suddenly had time at home that we’d often dreamed of: Time to spend with family, for outdoors activity like gardening or walking, or to get back to basics like cooking, sewing and building. Unfortunately, there has also been a significant downside for many, even when the illness itself isn’t present: Loss of daily structure, job loss or temporary layoff – how are the bills going to get paid? Can I find another job? Will I lose my home? How will I buy groceries?  What if I get sick? What if my loved ones get sick?  And of course: The kids are driving me crazy! My spouse is driving me crazy!

For people already challenged with trauma, anxiety issues, stress, etc., reactions range from “Well, I never really went out much anyway” to truly unbearable levels of upset and suffering.
