Listening for the Bells

My inclination, my passion really, is to look for the healing axis in every situation. Not easy with all this! But as healers, it’s our job to seek out the seam that holds the potential for regrowth and new life. Sitting still and listening is how I usually find my way to this. Hard to do when it’s all I can do not to scream.

But in the quiet before dawn on this dark day, I’m hearing some bells that can’t be unrung:
• Dads opening conversations with daughters that they never had before.
• Overloaded crisis help lines.
• Long hidden stories of sexual violence being told and heard. And sometimes acknowledged.

I’m not talking Pollyanna/silver lining here. I’m talking about the actual axis where what shows up painfully can begin to transform and heal.

Acknowledging wounds is a key step in healing. It’s what takes us from solitary suffering to a shared place that kindles movement and new growth. On our own, we pile up defenses and/or self medicate as our buried wounds fester. Respectful partnership creates a safe space to reveal and tend to our injuries. When we can share our vulnerability, we tap into healing potential that we can’t access on our own.

Anyone who disrespects the power and potential that comes with vulnerability gets cut off from their healing potential. We don’t have great models of health or healing in high places right now. But we all get to make our own choices on this.
