Wellness From (and For!) the World Around Us: Finding our Way this Spring

Sun shines through storm on spring trees

by Cynthia Zanti Jabs, L.Ac.

This new virus has changed so much this Spring. It’s radically altered routines and relationships for all of us. We’re learning new technologies to connect with loved ones, colleagues and clients. Reclaiming old practices like cooking from a pantry. Bowing to each other instead of shaking hands. Re-discovering the importance of the simple, sacred act of hand washing. Remembering the value of time outdoors.

“Healing With The Seasons” Medicinal Movement, Meditation and Breathing Practices  (aka ‘Qi Gong’)

Part 1: Springtime – Navigating the Winds of Change

Starts February 24, 2020

Cynthia Zanti Jabs, L.Ac., has taught and written about “Healing with the Seasons” for two decades. In 2020, she will offer a series of five mini-courses to introduce seasonally oriented Qi Gong practices at Ruscombe.

For practitioners, these breathing and movement practices are useful tools for both self-care and to teach clients in support of their treatments – and a fun way to earn CEU’s! For beginners, they provide safe and beneficial ways to explore and cultivate the movement of qi in and around them. All will leave each class with several usable practices related to the upcoming season. Those who complete the entire series of five mini-courses will take away a collection of practices to benefit all of the major organ systems.

The first three-class course will include basic qi building tools, simple clearing practices (for toxins, allergens and ’wind’) and movements to increase flexibility for healthy Springtime growth and movement. All of these help us shift gears from our weary Winter selves to our pro-active Spring selves.

October Orange

By Cynthia Zanti Jabs

How is it the air at dawn looks so orange now?

Is it all the pumpkins? The ‘pumpkin spice’ that spills into everything? The almost brown leaves hanging on for one last wave?

Maybe our eyes so filter out all the blue to come that its opposite is all we see. Or maybe Mother Earth knows that first light might be too much for us. She mercifully softens the edges with a warm glow. So its cut-to-the-chase clarity won’t make us wince. Or forget to keep. On. Breathing.

Cyntha Zanti Jabs L.Ac. is a longtime practitioner of Acupuncture and Qi Gong at Ruscombe. She is resuming her ‘Healing with the Seasons’ blog this month. Earlier blogs can be found under the Blog tab in the main menu.

Chronic Pain: A Mind/Body Experience

The complexities of chronic pain are increasingly being studied and understood. In acute pain, pain and injury/tissue damage are to a great extent related: You cut your finger with a knife; special neurons called nociceptors register this information and send a message to the spinal cord and brain; you experience pain. However, in chronic pain, pain that has lasted for a long time, there can be a much murkier connection between physical problems and experienced pain. Listening for the Bells

My inclination, my passion really, is to look for the healing axis in every situation. Not easy with all this! But as healers, it’s our job to seek out the seam that holds the potential for regrowth and new life. Sitting still and listening is how I usually find my way to this. Hard to do when it’s all I can do not to scream. Continue reading “Listening for the Bells”

Lessons Learned in the Grand Canyon – Another Side of Autumn Healing

When I was 30 I found my way to the Himalayas. It took me another 30+ to find my way to the Grand Canyon, pretty much the opposite of the Himalaya.

What to say about the Grand Canyon? Before going there this Summer I heard so many stellar reviews, I wondered if it could live up to them.

It more than did. And it added powerful inspiration to my view of healing.

Whether you’ve been there or not, lean back for a minute and come with me . . . Continue reading “Lessons Learned in the Grand Canyon – Another Side of Autumn Healing”
